EBOLA

Liberia | 2015

The 2015 Ebola epidemic in West Africa was the deadliest in history. Nearly 26,000 people fell sick with the devastating virus and schools and businesses shut down for months.

Morris is just one of the tens of thousands who became infected with the virus. He recovered but now faces a new set of challenges. Stigmatized because of fear of the virus, reeling from the loss of loved ones, and living in a nation with a decimated health system are the realities of surviving.

Produced and filmed by Alexandra Ostasiewicz on assignment for global health organization Americares.

These photos from Liberia capture the scenes of the deadly epidemic. From the inside of homes in rural villages to the inside of the hot zone at an Ebola Treatment Unit.

A series of three short videos developed for a campaign about the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. This series originally appeared as part of an interactive website and was advertised in the New York Times in early November 2014.
