Despite a 25 year civil war and major destruction in the wake of the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004, Sri Lanka has a 98.1% literacy rate, one of the highest in the region. This series of photos, taken in the north of the country, deep in the heart of territory controlled by the Tamil Tigers during the war, reflect that success.
